Our Vision
Empowering Generations of Girls to Thrive
At Wema Girls Cup, our vision is a future where every girl in rural Kenya has the opportunity to realize her full potential - socially, academically, and economically.
We envision communities where:
- Girls are valued equally to boys
- Sport is a tool of empowerment
- No girl is left behind due to poverty, gender and circumstance
Our Mission
Our mission is to empower girls through football, education and life skills - helping them become champions in every aspect of life.
Champions is not just a slogan. It's a framework that guides everything we do:
Confidence: We help girls discover their voice, believe n their worth, and walk with self assurance.
Holistic Development; We nurture the body, mind and spirit, combining physical training with mental and emotional support.
Advocacy: We teach girls to stand up for themselves and others- against gender based violence, discrimination, and harmful cultural practices.
Mentorship: Every girl is paired with a mentor who guides her personal and academic journey.
Potential: We help girls unlock their unique talents and encourage them to pursue their dreams unappologetically.
Innovation: We use creative approaches- from digital storytelling to girl-led leadership circles- to make learning relecant and fun.
Oneness; We promote unity across villages, breaking tribal, religous and social barriers through shared goals and teamwork.
Nurturing: Every girl is supported to discover and grow her abilities- on the field, in classroom, or in arts.
About Us
Wema is a Swahili word meaning " Goodness", and that's what we aim to grow, goodness in girls, in community and in the game. We work specifically with girls from rural communities in Western Kenya, places where girls are highly susceptible to early childhood pregnancies and Gender Based Violence. It is an initiative that sees a powerful vision: to use football not just as a sport, but as a tool for freedom, courage and confidence. In communities where girls are often sidelined, Wema Stands as a fierce reminder that girls belong on the pitch, in leadership and in the future of our country.
- We play to grow leaders
- Change the game
- For freedom
Why Football?
Football is more than just a game. On the pitch, there are no limits, only goals to chase, teammates to trust and dreams to fight for. At wema, football is oou language of change. It builds resilience, discipline and sisterhood. It gives girls a voice in a world that often silences them. Every pass, every goal, every cheer from the sidelines is a declaration: "I belong. I matter. I can." The sport becomes their safe space , place where courage is born and leadership takes root.In rural Kenya where girls are often told to shrink, football teaches them to take up space.

A word from our founder
About Us
I grew up in Bungoma, rural Kenya- a place where girls’ dreams often ended too soon. Not because they lacked potential, but because poverty, early marriage, and silence stole their chances.
When I returned home to start my business, I employed over 50 young men and women. But what I witnessed around me broke my heart.
One afternoon, a father stormed into my premises, his voice trembling with anger. Behind him stood a young girl in her maroon school uniform, eyes fixed on the ground. He shouted that one of my workers had “defiled” her and demanded that the young man marry her.
The girl was in Grade 12. She trembled under her father’s voice, unsure what would happen next. Five days before her national exams, she gave birth - and still sat for them. I remember thinking, how does a child raise a child and still chase her dreams?
Not long after, another father arrived with his daughter, insisting she be taken as a wife because one of my workers had been involved with her.
In another instance, one of my employees came to me in tears, asking for an advance so she could house her younger sister- a girl who had been thrown out by her father for being “old enough for a man to take care of her.”
Each of these moments left a deep mark on me. I realized that no girl should ever have to choose between her education and her dignity.
In October 2023, I visited India and spent three days with an organization called Yuwa, where girls from poor families played football with confidence, joy, and courage. Watching them, I knew that if this could happen there, it could happen here too.
When I came back, I brought the idea home. I met with local coaches and village leaders and asked them to form girls’ football teams. And that’s how the Wema Girls Cup was born: a space where girls could play, learn, and dream again.
Today, those same fields echo with laughter and hope. Girls who once hid in fear now lead their peers, pursue their education, and believe in their worth.
Like Mitchelle, one of our first players. She joined shy and withdrawn, barely speaking above a whisper. Two years later, she captains her school team, plays in the league, and has earned a scholarship to further her education.
The Wema Girls Cup is more than football- it’s freedom, confidence, and a classroom for leadership and hope.
Every whistle, every pass, every goal is a small victory- for a girl, for a family, for a community.
Your support helps us reach more villages, train more female coaches, and keep more girls in school- safe, confident, and full of possibility.
Because no girl should ever have to trade her future for survival. Not one.
